In this week’s episode of the Walk Humbly Podcast, Bishop Burbidge expresses his great joy and privilege in ordaining four new priests, and what this means for our Diocese. He also goes in-depth about the recent United States Conference of Catholic >Bishops Spring General Assembly, in which the issue of sexual abuse by bishops was the primary topic of discussion. In addition to their commitment to report allegations of sexual abuse to the legal authorities, the bishops:

  • implemented a bishop code of conduct, including the affirmation that the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People is expanded to include bishops as well as priests and deacons.
  • commissioned a national hotline for reporting violations.
  • established an implementation plan for ensuring that bishops (and their equivalents) implement Pope Francis’ motu proprio.
  • pledged to involve qualified lay professionals to assist in such investigations and reviews.
