This week in the United States we promote with great fervor and commitment, Religious Freedom Week. In our country the framers of the Constitution determined that the protection of religious liberty was so important it became part of our First Amendment rights. Regrettably, nearly 230 years later, the battle must still be fought. It is fought in our courts, in our Congress, and in our communities. Religious freedom is an American value that shows the world that in our nation, you can live by your religious convictions without fear of oppression. Sadly, this risk is often threatened and we must fight to uphold that sacred belief. Inspired by the example of St. Thomas More, may we always be “God’s servant first”--proudly and courageously living our faith.
